FROM A CARE GIVER TO A CARE SEEKER : STORIES OF COVID WARRIORS

Few things in the world are more powerful than a positive push. A smile. A world of optimism and hope. An ongoing global pandemic has altered the very fabric of our existence, in one fell swoop shutting down everything we hold, from sports to movies to music to the very notion of human interaction. Supporting and caring for corona patients by these volunteers and health workers brings high hopes and aspirations to all. They are the people making a huge difference in society.

The Gajera team visited four healthcare centers to make an on-spot assessment of Covid-19 in these areas. The volunteers have made elaborate arrangements to handle any eventuality.

  • Althan Community Hall (Althan)

  • Samast Patidar Samaj Wadi (Katargam)

  • Lifeline Covid-Center, Community Hall (Utran)

  • Community Hall, Sudama Chowk (Mota Varachha) isolation centers

Emergencies and Supplies at COVID centers:

  • To provide basic medical facilities.

  • Infection Prevention and Control Practices

  • To provide Laboratory facilities.

  • Managing healthcare resources.

  • Biomedical Waste Management (BMW)

In all the COVID centres, staff and volunteers have trained to deal with all sorts of emergencies and supplies. The centers emerged as a glimmer of hope for patients and their families. Ground reporting from all these centers, however, brought to light stories and struggles of survival.

In the past few weeks, healthcare professionals are deeply involved in caring for enormous numbers of people infected with COVID-19. They are doing an incredible job. Not only this, healthcare professionals and social workers have been using continuous improvement methods as part of their accreditation program for many years. It has become part of their DNA. All these have enabled them to change many processes as needed during COVID-19, using a cross-functional problem-solving approach in very rapid improvement cycles. And there is an urgency in making progress using the momentum of adaptive change. Until vaccinated, everyone has to adapt to the new reality. All of us will have to scale up and down again while maintaining high standards in quality and safety of care. Elective care has to commence while COVID-19 might flare up again. New realities like social distancing and increased use of e-health have to be faced.

Roles and Responsibilities of the Warriors:

  • Reinforce the need for completing daily self- assessments for symptoms of illness.

  • Monitor adherence to physical distancing, hygiene, and screening protocols.

  • Encourage open dialogue to address concerns and reinforce expectations.

  • Maintain a listing of direct reports.

Let’s express our deepest gratitude to the warriors in the forefront fighting the battle. The nation is indebted to all the doctors, nurses, and other health workers who have been front-line warriors in this fight against the coronavirus, and these are the ideal service warriors of our nation.
